The research line in Hydrology and Climate Change at the Ebro Observatory is looking to hire researchers with a non-permanent indefinite contract to carry out scientific and technical activities. This call aims to hire two individuals, initially funded by two awarded LIFE projects: the eCOadapt50 project and the Pyrenees4Clima project. Additionally, further funding is anticipated through contracts or competitive calls to continue financing these positions.

  • Gross Annual Salary: 31,257.00 euros
  • Work Schedule: Regular working hours of 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Working Hours: Mandatory presence from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Remaining daily hours to be completed between 7:30 AM and 7:30 PM, subject to service and organizational needs.

Essential to possess oral and written knowledge of the Catalan language at level C1 of the Directorate General of Language Policy, or equivalent. Official accreditation must be provided, without prejudice to what is established in Article 3.3 of DECREE 161/2002, of June 11, regarding the possibility of accrediting this knowledge by passing a specific level C1 test. This test will be mandatory and eliminatory, with the result being either "pass" or "fail."

Responsibilities

The selected doctoral researcher will join the geophysics research group at the Observatory to perform the following tasks (in order of importance):

  1. Conduct research tasks within the Observatory’s hydrology and climate change research line, including but not limited to:
    • Development, improvement, and use of physical and/or statistical models to simulate the continental water cycle, including human impacts (e.g., irrigation) and climate change impacts. This includes working on models or the databases they require (atmospheric forcings, physiography, etc.).
    • Development and/or validation of remote sensing products for studying the continental water cycle (evapotranspiration, irrigation, soil moisture, etc.).
    • Conducting scientific studies based on the tools mentioned above.
    • Creation of products based on the tools mentioned above, transferable to society, such as:
      • Development and improvement of tools for monitoring drought impacts on various crops and making irrigation recommendations.
      • Evaluation of climate change impacts on hydrological basins, considering human activities.
  2. Prepare project proposals and, consequently, lead or co-lead and develop funded research projects.
  3. Supervise or co-supervise early-career scientific personnel (master’s theses, doctoral work, etc.).
  4. Support the OE’s observational activities in agrometeorology and hydrology, related to active research projects.
  5. Opportunity to participate in activities related to the PhD program in information technologies and applications in management, architecture, and geophysics at URL.
  6. Conduct dissemination, outreach, and public engagement activities related to OE’s research and observation activities (writing reports and scientific articles, and participating in OE’s outreach programs).
