The Ebro Observatory announces a position for a doctor in physics, hydrology, meteorology, climate or similar.
Profile description:
The candidate must have experience in the study of physical processes in the interface between soil, vegetation and atmosphere and their simulation using land-surface models (LSMs). The experience in the use of LSM models in hydrological applications will be highly valued. It is necessary to have a good understanding of the climate system and how to perform future hydrological scenarios. Advanced knowledge and expertise in Linux (shell scripts), scientific programming in Fortran and Python are essential, R is also valued positively. Ability to analyze data in formats commonly used in this field (NetCDF) and the tools to deal with them is necessary. The experience with geographic information systems (GIS) will be valued. Participation in past international conferences and scientific publications are a requirement. A good level of communication in English is essential. Knowledge of Catalan, Spanish and / or French will also be valued positively, but they are not indispensable.
Responsibilities: The contracted person will be integrated into the group of physical hydrology, meteorology and climate. He will work under the direction of Dr. Pere Quintana Seguí within the framework of the international project POCTEFA PIRAGUA, which studies the water resources of the Pyrenees. The work will involve the improvement of the SASER model of the Ebro Observatory and its application to achieve the objectives of the project.
Salary: 1920,00 € gross/month aprox. (12 months a year).
Type of contract: Full time ("Obra y servicio").
